New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith underwent surgery to repair a damaged patella tendon and lateral meniscus in his left knee back in mid-July. The initial timetable for his recovery was 12-16 weeks. A dozen weeks would have him returning during training camp, but the longer end of the timeline would have him missing the first couple of weeks of the NBA season.
According to ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley, Smith remains uncertain whether he'll be ready for action when the Knicks tip off the 2013-14 campaign Oct. 30 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
