Why Smith waited to have knee surgery

The New York Knicks announced Monday that shooting guard J.R. Smith will be sidelined at least three to four months as he recovers from left knee surgery to fix a tear in the lateral meniscus. The news came as shock to the fans of the team after he signed a new four-year, $24.7 million contract last week.
