With the World Series set to get under way Tuesday night, there are 28 other teams in the major leagues already looking ahead to 2015 in hopes that they might be playing for a championship next year at this time. Free agency doesn't officially kick in until five days after the champagne has been sprayed, but the rumor mill is already buzzing with potential moves that might help those clubs watching on television this year become the center of attention next October.

Over the next two weeks, we'll take a snapshot of each of the six MLB divisions and what teams might have in the works this offseason, beginning with today's look at the American League East.

Baltimore Orioles

Big decisions: The team is expected to buy out their option on Nick Markakis, and while they might make a qualifying offer to their AL home run champ Nelson Cruz, a long-term deal might be out of their price range.

This morning my little nephew was wearing the same Seattle Mariners' Ichiro shirt that my son once wore years before, and it got me thinking about Ichiro, a player once regarded as one of the best in the game.

Is good 'ol Ichiro ready to hang 'em up? Has he played his last game? Or is the soon-to-be 41-year-old outfielder committed to playing in 2015? A story from over the weekend helped shed light on that.

Replacing a legend is never an easy task, no matter which field it's in, and to David Robertson's credit the Yankees closer did very well replacing Mariano Rivera. Summoned from the setup role, he converted 39 of 44 save chances in 2014.

But Robertson is set to become a free agent this winter, and if he signs elsewhere it could be up to another stud setup man, young Dellin Betances, to assume the closer role in 2015.

Nelson Cruz's huge season in Baltimore (.263, 39 HR, 102 RBI) is sure to make the 34-year-old slugger one of the biggest names on the free agent market this winter. Will the New York Yankees be one of his main suitors?

The only thing more surprising than the New York Yankees missing the playoffs, like they did in 2013, would be for them to miss out on October two years in a row.

Entering Tuesday, it's clear that the Yanks have a serious uphill battle to claw their way back into the playoff picture.

Brian McCann is eligible to come off the seven-day concussion disabled list on Saturday, but will that happen? And if not, when will the New York Yankees catcher return?

The New York Yankees enter Wednesday night's big matchup against Detroit's Justin Verlander six games behind Baltimore for the AL East lead and a mere game back in the Wild Card standings. As long as things continue to play out how they have all season, the Yankees will have as good a shot as any of the other Wild Card hopefuls for that coveted second playoff berth.

That is the big question, though; so far this season, the Yankees have come out very well in close games, and if that trend changes the Yanks could be in big trouble.

Finally, the long wait is over and Masahiro Tanaka is set to put on the pinstripes, reaching an agreement Wednesday on a seven-year, $155 million deal with the New York Yankees. Tanaka will join C.C. Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Hiroki Kuroda in the Yankees' rotation, but where will he fit in and what type of production can we expect out of the 25-year-old in 2014?

That's the big question Yankees' fans now are now asking themselves, and it's one sure to be on the minds of plenty of fantasy baseball owners as well. So lets take a look.
