MLB Rumors: Matt Lindstrom

Closer Matt Lindstrom was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated tendon in his right ankle after having suffering the injury attempting to field a bunt in Monday's game. So the obvious question to ask is who might take over in the ninth inning for the Chicago White Sox while he's out.

With Addison Reed having been traded to Arizona, the Chicago White Sox enter this spring without a clear-cut favorite to replace the pitcher who successfully closed out 40 games for the team in 2013. Pitching coach Don Cooper has said he expects one pitcher to eventually "step up and set himself apart" and win the job outright before the start of the 2014 season.

The Chicago White Sox finished 30 games out of first place in the American League Central last season. Having a closer like Addison Reed (40 saves in 2013) to lock down victories is a luxury that the team felt it could afford to lose until they could be more competitive overall.

The Chicago White Sox can't even see the Detroit Tigers, they're so far back in the American League Central. If the club can't climb the standings some in the next few weeks, GM Rick Hahn may look to flip some veterans for young talent.

Jays' relief search urgent?

The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to add a relief pitcher and CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman tweeted earlier this winter that the club wants a setup man capable of closing. Such an arm shouldn't be too difficult to find, but the free agent market has thinned of such veteran relievers with ninth-inning experience.
