Is there something to be concerned about with Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen? On Thursday, the reliever needed 34 pitches to get through the 12th inning in order to pick up his 11th save of the season, but he didn't do so without first allowing walking two, allowing a run and getting hit pretty hard in the process.

Dodgers plans as pitchers fall

The Los Angeles Dodgers got some bad news relating to two of their pitchers on Tuesday. First, they placed reliever Brian Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his right elbow. Then, they announced that starter Clayton Kershaw will likely be out at least two to three more weeks -- if not longer -- with his back woes.

Even though the Seattle Mariners got 16 saves from Danny Farquhar over the last two months of the 2013 season, it seems they would prefer to use the young reliever in the eighth inning of games next season, and bring in a more established closer to handle the end of games in 2014.

Before last night, Brian Wilson had not pitched since last April, when his career with the San Francisco Giants came to an unexpected and unceremonious end due to the need for that dreaded Tommy John surgery. However, Wilson's comeback began in High-A, as the pitcher needed just eight pitches to retire the side in order.

The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to add a relief pitcher and CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman tweeted earlier this winter that the club wants a setup man capable of closing. Such an arm shouldn't be too difficult to find, but the free agent market has thinned of such veteran relievers with ninth-inning experience.
