Could Manny play in 2013?
By Doug Mittler
Manny Ramirez, who turns 41 next month, dropped hints last month that he would like to return to the major leagues in 2013. But if that doesn’t work, there’s a world out there to explore.
Jon Paul Morosi tweets Tuesday that Ramirez is in talks to play for the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. Ramirez hasn't played in the majors since April of 2011 with the Rays and was released by the A's last season after failing to advance past Triple-A Sacramento.
If Ramirez were to play well in Taiwan, there always is a chance that an MLB team desperate for offensive help could come calling in the summertime. But there were concerns last season that Ramirez had lost a good portion of his famous bat speed. Given all the excess baggage that would come with a signing, a return to the majors seems remote.
