If Sanchez lands in Pittsburgh
By Doug Mittler
Jonathan Sanchez could soon become a reclamation project for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Pirates are close to a deal with Sanchez, who was a combined 1-9 with an 8.07 ERA for the Royals and Rockies in 2009. Rob Biertempfel tweets that the Pirates are offering a minor league deal.
Sanchez reportedly has been working on his mechanics in an effort to regain the form he once had in San Francisco. Given the deal is a minor league one, it represents a low-risk move for the Pirates, who could use another starting pitcher.
The Bucs are still negotiating with free agent Francisco Liriano and GM Neal Huntington hinted over the weekend that a deal might not get done by the start of spring training.
