Dice-K's future

By Doug Mittler

The Houston Astros and New York Mets are among the teams “kicking around" the possibility of inviting Daisuke Matsuzaka to spring training, says Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Matsuzaka went just 1-7 with an 8.28 ERA in 11 starts for the Red Sox last season after returning from elbow surgery. Any club signing the 32-year-old who won 18 games in 2008 will likely offer nothing more than a minor league deal. Cafardo adds the righthander could return to Japan if he doesn’t feel he has a good chance of landing a big league job.

The Astros could use a veteran presence to serve as an innings-eater, but Dice-K's injury history makes him a risky bet.
