Options for Lowe
By Doug Mittler
Even with the start of spring training a week away, Derek Lowe is not rushing into a deal.
The 39-year-old has passed on a minor league offer from the Rockies, preferring to hold out for a guaranteed contract, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post. This follows a report from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that Lowe is choosing his next job carefully.
Lowe’s best offer might be in a bullpen role, given his ERA as a starter the last two seasons was above five runs per game. Cafardo says the Mets and Astros are possibilities for Lowe.
