No. 5 starter in Boston
By Jason A. Churchill
The Boston Red Sox appear done tinkering with the key components of their roster, including the starting rotation. Having added right-hander Ryan Dempster to the mix, the club's one competition could be the final spot. That No. 5 gig could come down to left-hander Franklin Morales and veteran right-hander John Lackey.
Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront and Dempster appear to be locks, barring injuries, leaving one spot available. Lackey, 34, is tuned up physically and ready to get back to work after missing 2012 recovering and rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Lackey is not expected to have any limitations during spring training.
Rubby De La Rosa, Steven Wright, Drake Britton and Morales are next in line for starts should the need arise. Morales made nine starts last season and held his own, but was sharper in relief and could serve as a key long relief option.
