Red Sox will pass on Abreu
By Doug Mittler
The Boston Red Sox are looking for a backup first baseman/outfielder, but are unlikely to pursue Bobby Abreu, reported Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe over the weekend.
Abreu turns 39 in March and faces an uphill battle finding work after hitting a combined .242 for the Angels and Dodgers in 2012. Another concern is a .350 OBP, 46 points below his career average. Abreu recently contacted the Marlins, telling the club he would "love to play" on South Beach, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
