Mauer wants to stay put
By Doug Mittler
The odds of the Minnesota Twins trading Joe Mauer are remote at best. Those odds are zero if you ask the 2009 AL MVP and five-time All-Star.
Mauer told Sid Hartman of the Star Tribune that he has no plans to waive his no-trade clause. "There's a reason why I signed to play here, and I love playing here. That's what I'm going to do," Mauer said at the Twins' FanFest.
Trading Mauer would be a mammoth task to begin with, given he will take $23 million per season through 2018. The 29-year-old bounced back from an injury-plagued 2011 to hit .319 with an MLB-best .416 OBP last season.
