Michael Morse's future
By Doug Mittler
The Baltimore Orioles were among the teams making moves prior to the August 31 deadline for postseason eligibility, landing Michael Morse from the Seattle Mariners for Xavier Avery.
Morse endured a bumpy first season in Seattle with a .226/.283/.410 slash line, but he fills a need for the Orioles, who were looking for right-handed power and some help at designated hitter. His stroke should fit in nicely at Camden Yards, one of the more hitter-friendly parks in baseball.
The Orioles will likely try to re-sign Morse as a free agent this winter, but they could face some competition from the Boston Red Sox, writes Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. While Morse is not a strong defensive player, Morse would be a viable option at first base if the Red Sox fail to re-sign Mike Napoli.
