Timetable for Wandy
By Doug Mittler
The Pittsburgh Pirates are still hoping for some late-season contributions from Wandy Rodriguez, who threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session Monday and admitted to MLB.com that he "didn’t feel 100 percent."
Rodriguez, who has not pitched since early June due to soreness in his left forearm, still plans to throw a simulated game Thursday. The Pirates would likely prefer that Rodriguez go on a rehab assignment, but he may be running out of options with the minor league seasons ending in early September.
While Francisco Liriano continues to dominate, the Pirates’ staff may be showing some signs of wearing down. The Pirates' ERA is 4.10 in August following a 2.77 ERA in July.
Fifth starter Charlie Morton could be a candidate to be bumped from the rotation, but he has pitched well in his last three starts (2.70 ERA).
