Impact of Teixeira's surgery
By Jason A. Churchill
New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeria will miss the rest of the season due to wrist surgery, reports Andy McCullough via Twitter, news that may push the club into the corner infield market.
I summarized that market last week, though names could be added or subtracted to that list as clubs make decisions on their direction as the trade deadline approaches.
The Yankees' own plans for their infield is likely to be greatly influenced by the status of Alex Rodriguez. If they feel he'll be back and available to play third base, Kevin Youkilis can handle first base. Lyle Overbay remains on the roster as a first base option, too.
The club's lineup will look very much like it did while Teixeira sat out earlier in the year, so no major surprises or alterations should necessarily be expected. If the team does make a move, it may be for depth more than anything else.
