Braves eyeing Gregg
By Jason A. Churchill
Chicago Cubs right-hander Kevin Gregg is expected to be moved by the trade deadline and the Atlanta Braves are reportedly among the clubs interested in the veteran.
The Braves have lost both Johnny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty to injuries and neither will return in 2013. Gregg can help bridge the gap between starter and closer Craig Kimbrel and occasionally handle the ninth inning himself. The Braves could also check the market for a left-hander -- Venters and O'Flaherty are each lefties, leaving the club without an experience southpaw in the bullpen.
Other clubs that could have interest in Gregg include the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. The Red Sox removed Andrew Bailey from the closer's role last week while the Tigers have been lacking depth in the late innings all season.
