The market for Saunders
By Doug Mittler
Besides Kyle Lohse and Shaun Marcum, the most notable free agent starter left on the market may by Joe Saunders, who pitched well down the stretch for the Orioles, including a 1.59 ERA in two playoff starts.
Saunders has indicated he wouldn't mind returning to Baltimore, but was believed to be looking for a three-year deal earlier this winter, a price that may be dropping as spring training approaches. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets Wednesday the Orioles and Mariners are among the teams in on the lefthander.
MLB Network Radio's Jim Duquette tweeted last week the 31-year-old Saunders is choosing between clubs: the Mets, Padres, Twins and Orioles. It could come down to which team is willing to include an extra year.
