Could the Sox seek third base help?
By Jason Catania
The Boston Red Sox have been linked to the potential trade market for relief help, but with Will Middlebrooks struggling and somewhat injury prone the club might see the need for third base help.
Middlebrooks is back off the DL but hitting just .201 in 49 games so far this year. He hasn't been completely useless, mind you, but some insurance could be in order.
Rookie Jose Iglesias, a shortstop by trade, has helped Boston fill the void at third base and is hitting rather well, although he's been known almost exclusively for his defense to this point in his young career.
Should the Red Sox want to look outside the organization at some point to boost their third base production, the likes of Alberto Callaspo, Michael Young or Conor Gillaspie could serve as secondary, short-term options.
Of course, the big-splash target at the hot corner remains the Padres' Chase Headley.
