More night games at Wrigley?
By Doug Mittler
Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts said last weekend the team wants to fund a $300 million renovation plan at Wrigley Field if the city eases some of its restrictions around Wrigley Field.
If the plan comes to fruition, it could result in more night games at the Friendly Confines, says Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.
The Cubs are currently allowed to play 30 night contests as part of a deal with the city and are looking for more. While the Cubs haven’t said how many, one source tells Sullivan that they want “half,” or 41, including an occasional Saturday night game. The Cubs also would like the city to repeal the restrictions that prevent late-afternoon starts on Fridays.
