ETA for Andrew Bailey
By Doug Mittler
The Boston Red Sox could have reliever Andrew Bailey back in the next five to seven days, manager John Farrell told Jim Duquette on MLB Network Radio.
Bailey is on the disabled list with a strained right biceps and already is eligible to return, so it is uncertain if the reliever will need a rehab assignment. The return of Bailey could not come soon enough given that Joel Hanrahan is out for the year with a forearm injury. Bailey had five saves in six opportunities before landing on the DL.
Bailey will pitch in a simulated game Thursday. The Sox will decide then whether he will go on a brief minor league rehabilitation assignment before being activated.
Right-hander Junichi Tazawa was installed as the closer with Bailey and Hanrahan down, but the Red Sox have not had a save since May 2.
