Make room for Coco
By Doug Mittler
The Oakland Athletics appear confident about getting back at least one of their injured outfielders back on Wednesday.
Manager Bob Melvin said Coco Crisp, sidelined with a hamstring problem, was able to run at full speed on Monday, reports Matt Kawahara of the Sacramento Bee. Outfielder Michael Taylor was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento after Tuesday's loss to Texas, clearing roster space for Crisp.
Yoenis Cespedes has been playing center field in Crisp’s absence and figures to return to left field. Seth Smith will now get less time in left field and more at-bats as a designated hitter.
The return of Chris Young is not expected until Friday. Melvin says Young homered and played seven innings in center field Monday in an extended spring training game, but was not completely over his right quadriceps injury.
