Zambrano not quacking with Ducks
By Doug Mittler
Reports last week had Carlos Zambrano becoming the latest reclamation project of the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
But Zambrano is still not listed on the Ducks’ roster. That is because Zambrano agreed to the deal but did not sign it, reports Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. Zambrano feels he can land a deal with a major league organization and reportedly worked out Monday with representatives of the Phillies, Orioles, Blue Jays, Yankees and Reds in attendance.
Zambrano likely knows the Ducks will be waiting if Monday’s workout doesn’t pan out. Long Island's current roster includes Dontrelle Willis while the team lists John Rocker, Jose Offerman and Juan Gonzalez among its alumni.
Any big league team that signs Zambrano, who was 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA for the Marlins last season, will have him serve a stint in the minors to see if anything is left in the tank.
