Can Lohse go home again?

By AJ Mass

Kyle Lohse was 16-3 with 2.83 ERA last season. He was on the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals in their most important game of the 2012 season: Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. In November, the Cardinals offered him a one-year, $13.3 million contract, but the pitcher opted instead to test the free agent waters.

Flash forward to today, and Lohse is still unsigned. Part of the reason is the compensation due to the Cardinals as a result of them making that November offer. Part of it is likely the unwillingness of teams like the Colorado Rockies and New York Mets to meet his asking price. And so, Lohse continues to wait with nowhere to call home.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Lohse will not be able to return to the Cardinals. General manager John Mozeliak told the paper that "right now I would say from the Cardinals standpoint we feel we're moving on."

So what doors remain open for Lohse? Last week, Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas suggested that the Texas Rangers might be a fit for Lohse. You can read that article via the link below:

Still want Kyle Lohse?
"Again, as I've stressed all offseason, this club has been careful not to get into a long-term deal it isn't comfortable doing that could handcuff it down the road. Lohse can help this team and makes sense, but only at the right price."
