Hometown discount in effect?
By AJ Mass
Certainly, the Miami Marlins still have more than enough room on their payroll to offer a few veterans a one-year deal to help give their team a little more credibility for the upcoming 2013 season.
The Miami Herald reports that the team has heard from the agents representing pitcher Freddy Garcia and outfielder Bobby Abreu about the possibility of playing for the Marlins. Both of those men currently call Miami home, and if we're being honest, probably don't have the phone ringing off the hook at the moment either.
Still with only Ricky Nolasco set to make more than $3 million in the upcoming season, if there are experienced ballplayers willing to suffer through what could very well become a 90-loss season, what's the harm in letting them come along for the rocky ride?
