Rangers rotation update
By Jason A. Churchill
Left-hander and Opening Day starter Matt Harrison is out for what could be the rest of the season. Martin Perez and right-hander Colby Lewis are working their way back from injury and could return before mid-season. Needless to say the Texas Rangers' starting rotation, as a whole, is anything but stable. Good thing for Yu Darvish and Derek Holland.
Rookie right-handers Justin Grimm and Nick Tepesch are likely to compete against one another for a spot in the rotation as Lewis and Perez continue their paths back to healthyville, but Perez is not guaranteed anything, skipper Ron Washington said Monday.
Ultimately, both first-year starters are likely to be headed back to Triple-A Round Rock, or the bullpen. Perez began a rehab assignment Monday. Lewis is slated to go Thursday for Round Rock. Barring setbacks, both are likely to be ready this month.
