Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka's trek back to the big leagues hit a snag this week when he had to leave a start after three shutout innings and was placed on the 7-day disabled list.
The veteran is attempting to come back from Tommy John surgery in 2011 and a poor showing in 2012. The Indians aren't exactly flush with starting pitching depth, so more outings like Tuesday's could get Matsuzaka the nod sometime in the first half if the need arises.
We've discussed the struggles of Ubaldo Jimenez and it's possible once Matzuaka appears ready he could replace Corey Kluber, who is filling in for Myers.
Matsuzaka was coming off his best, and most efficient, start of the season before retiring the first nine batters Monday. He left the game with pain in his side. The Tribe called up Trevor Bauer to start Wednesday, but if Dice had been healthy there's at least a chance they'd have chosen him. The one obstacle there is the 40-man roster issue. Bauer is on it, Matsuzaka is not.
