Astros outfield juggle
By Jason A. Churchill
The Houston Astros have recalled Robbie Grossman from Triple-A to fill in for the injured Justin Maxwell, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an injured hand suffered on a hit-by-pitch. Could Grossman be part of the crew that patches up center field in Maxwell's absence?
Brian Barnes played center Tuesday and both Rick Ankiel and Fernando Martinez have experience at the position, and it's worth noting Grossman, despite having minor league experience there, is considered a left fielder in the big leagues. ESPN Insider's Keith Law was asked via Twitter whether or not Grossman could "handle" center. The reply? "No."
Grossman, 23, can hit, however, though he doesn't bring much power to the plate. His time in the majors could be somewhat short-lived if he doesn't produce, but could be kept beyond Maxwell's return if he does.
