More OF problems in Seattle
By Jason A. Churchill
Michael Saunders is on the disabled list after running into the wall a week and a half ago, and now centerfielder Franklin Gutierrez appears headed for the DL, too. Gutierrez injured him hamstring Monday night in Houston, further reducing skipper Eric Wedge's outfield options.
For the next few days -- until Saunders' expected return, Endy Chavez will have to start in center for the Seattle Mariners. The club may have hinted that Carlos Peguero would take Gutierrez's roster spot when he was removed from the lineup mid-game down in Triple-A. Eric Thames is another option.
Jason Bay would be the backup centerfielder for the four days until Saunders is back, which should tell you all you need to know about the depth issues in the Emerald City right now.
