Felix to make next start?
By Jason A. Churchill
Felix Hernandez was pulled after just 93 pitches Monday due to back stiffness and while there's no reason to believe there will be lingering issues, the possibility that he could miss his next start is far from, well, far-fetched.
The Seattle Mariners do not have a day off between now and Hernandez's next start, which is slated for Saturday at home versus the Los Angeles Angels, so pushing his outing back is not an option. The club could insert long relievers Blake Beavan or Hector Noesi into the spot to create some extra time for The King to rest, if needed.
Potential minor league call-ups are limited to Danny Hultzen, as he's the lone healthy starter on the 40-man roster that may be ready for some time in the majors. Personally, I wouldn't do anything to derail what has been a nice recovery for Hultzen this month after struggling mightily with his control last summer.
Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez might be first in line if he were healthy. He's currently on the disabled list with no timetable for his return. Veteran Jeremy Bonderman has yet to string together consistent starts as he works his way back from two years off.
