Update on Cards bullpen
By Jason A. Churchill
St. Louis Cardinals closer Jason Motte is slated to undergo a follow-up MRI on his right elbow Tuesday, reports MLB.com, suggesting the club should know more about their ace reliever's timetable.
Mitchell Boggs is handling the ninth inning for now, but watch for Trevor Rosenthal to end up with the job, particularly if Boggs continues to struggle to get outs. Rosenthal has better raw stuff and despite less experience in the majors, may be the club's future closer, anyway.
If Motte tests out fine he could be back in a matter of weeks and push back Rosenthal's ascent to the permanent job, and there is still a chance the young flamethrower gets another shot to start down the line, so it's no sure thing long term, but in the interim he may be the best option.
