CarGo happy in left field
By Doug Mittler
If Carlos Gonzalez has his way, he will be used exclusively as a left fielder.
The Colorado Rockies shifted Gonzalez to left field last season following the signing of Michael Cuddyer and the All-Star won his second gold glove while staying off the disabled list. With Rockies carrying just four outfielders, manager Walt Weiss has floated the idea of having CarGo get some innings in right field to create more playing time for Eric Young Jr.
Gonzalez is not looking to make waves, telling Troy Renck of the Denver Post he will “do what’s best for the team” if asked, but for now the career .300 hitter feels just right in left. It remains to be seen if Weiss follows the wishes of a star player.
