Victorino passed on Tribe
By Doug Mittler
Shane Victorino's first series with his new team is in the heat of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.
Victorino accepted a three-year, $39 million contract with the Red Sox because he wanted his final big deal to be in that type of “baseball town,” reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. The 32-year-old outfielder even concedes to Martino that he passed on a four-year, $44 million offer from the Cleveland Indians.
The Tribe ended up using some of that extra cash on a four-year deal for Michael Bourn, so things worked out OK.
