Door still open for Wilson?
By Doug Mittler
Maybe the San Francisco Giants haven’t moved on from Brian Wilson after all.
According to ESPN.com’s Jim Bowden, manager Bruce Bochy says the Giants “have not closed the door” on their former closer who is recovering from Tommy John surgery.
It was reported in January that the Giants had basically ruled out signing Wilson when they were unable to meet the reliever’s financial demands.
Wilson, who had 48 saves in the Giants’ World Series championship season of 2010, pitched in just two games last year before being shut down. He has been mentioned as a possible fallback option in Detroit should the Tigers balk at using rookie Bruce Rondon.
If the Giants do work a deal for Wilson, it would seem to be as an insurance policy behind Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla.
