Top remaining free agents
By Jason A. Churchill
With closer Rafael Soriano (No. 14 on Keith Law's Top 50 free agents) and first baseman Adam LaRoche (No. 16) having each signed with the Nationals, and Delmon Young headed for Philly, the free agent market is just about dry. Centerfielder Michael Bourn (No. 4) and right-hander Kyle Lohse (No. 6) are the best available.
The relief market still boasts a few top setup men, including a few with closing experience such as Kyle Farnsworth (No. 38), Jose Valverde (No. 34) and Francisco Rodriguez (No. 46). Other relievers available include Matt Capps, Brandon Lyon and Matt Lindstrom.
Daisuke Matsuzaka (No. 47) also remains a free agent as his market develops at a snail's pace. Joe Saunders is still out there looking for a three-year contract.
ESPN Insider's Keith Law evaluated Bourn's value at the start of the offseason:
No. 4 -- Michael Bourn
"The one concern I have with Bourn is that so much of his value is tied up in his legs, rather than his eyes or his bat. He is one major leg injury or a series of smaller ones away from losing the value he contributes on defense and on the bases. That value could diminish if he loses speed due to age as he gets into his 30s. I don't think either scenario is highly likely, but it's the major risk in signing a player like Bourn to a lengthy deal."
