Oswalt's options

By Jason A. Churchill

Right-hander Roy Oswalt did not sign until late May last spring and remains undecided on his future for 2013, at last check. The veteran may again wait it out and find the right fit, but there may be others that sit ahead of him on the preferred list, including Kyle Lohse and potential surplus of starters with the Dodgers.

Clubs, however, may look at Oswalt's struggles in 2012 and view him as a reliever -- he posted a 6.36 ERA in a starting role and was very good in eight relief appearances, producing a 3.65 ERA an 20-1 K/BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings.

The New York Mets were linked to Oswalt in January but there have been no indications of such interest from either party, and it's not clear that Oswalt wants to return in the first place. If he does, he may prefer to wait until June again.
