No catching platoon in Boston
By Doug Mittler
Red Sox manager John Farrell cautioned Tuesday against speculation the catching duties could develop into somewhat of a platoon between Jarrod Saltalamacchia and David Ross.
Saltalamacchia remains the starter and Farrell tells Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com no decisions have been made on how much Ross will play, or whether he could make most of his starts with a particular pitcher.
Farrell pointed out that 24 of Saltalamacchia’s 25 home runs came against right-handers, a good sign Ross will get at-bats against southpaws. Ross made 47 starts in Atlanta last season as a backup to Brian McCann.
