Red Sox pursuing Carp?

The Red Sox reportedly are in pursuit of first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp, who was designated for assignment by the Mariners last week.
Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports Wednesday the Red Sox are “hopeful” that a deal for Carp can get done. In Boston, Carp could be a left-handed complement to both Jonny Gomes in left field and Mike Napoli at first base.
The Brewers are dealing with injuries at first base to Corey Hart and Mat Gamel, but have ruled out a deal for Carp, Ken Rosenthal tweeted Tuesday.
