If Jurrjens' deal falls apart
By Jason A. Churchill
As reported by the Baltimore Sun Friday, the Baltimore Orioles' agreement with right-hander Jair Jurrjens is on hold pending a physical and it seems as if there may be an issue with the pitcher's knee that could derail the deal.
If that occurs that Orioles could turn to other veterans such as Derek Lowe, Daisuke Matsuzaka, or perhaps even Roy Oswalt. We learned Thursday that left-hander Joe Saunders has agreed to terms with the Seattle Mariners, so he's off the market for Baltimore.
The top free agent starter still available is right-hander Kyle Lohse, but the O's have not been linked to the Scott Boras client. Whether it's based on contract length and dollars, draft-pick compensation or a combination of remains to be seen.
