Valencia's future in Baltimore
By Doug Mittler
The Orioles' Danny Valencia is one of the new names linked to the Biogenesis clinic alleged to have distributed performance-enhancing drugs to major leaguers, Yahoo Sports reported on Tuesday night.
Valencia has denied any connection, but the timing could not have been worse for the 28-year-old third baseman, says Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun.
Valencia will be fighting for a roster spot this spring, possibly as a right-handed designated hitter against left-handed pitching. The Orioles added another candidate to that mix Tuesday when they claimed Russ Canzler off waivers from the New York Yankees. Encina notes that Valencia does have a minor league option remaining, so he could be sent to Triple-A Norfolk.
