In Buster Olney's blog on Wednesday, he writes about the fact that the era when managers were the starts of the show is just about dead and buried. As he puts it, "Both (Bobby Valentine and Ozzie Guillen) were fired in less than a year, of course, and they will be among the last of a fading concept: The Manager as Franchise Savior, the Manager as Franchise Leader, the Manager as Face of the Franchise. The days of John McGraw, Casey Stengel and Earl Weaver being bigger than anybody else in the organization are over."
