The starting pitching market continues to thin with right-hander Jair Jurrjens inking a one-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles just hours after Shaun Marcum signed a one-year contract with the New York Mets. Right-hander Kyle Lohse and lefty Joe Saunders are the top free agents left, and several journeymen types, including Freddy Garcia, Kevin Millwood, Derek Lowe, Jonathan Sanchez and Chris Young also remain.

Baltimore's adding of Jurrjens could impact their interest in Saunders, which could leave the southpaw to Seattle or Minnesota. The Mets decided on Marcum, so Saunders isn't likely to land in Queens, either.

The Mariners have been linked to Detroit right-hander Rick Porcello but may prefer to sign a free agent such as Saunders rather than give up players to land a fairly similarly-valued starting pitcher. They may also prefer a lefty since trading Jason Vargas to the Angels for Kendrys Morales.
