One of the biggest surprises in what ultimately was a very quiet trade deadline day was the lack of activity by the Seattle Mariners, a franchise that finally may be on the up but also one that ended the day with a 0.3 percent chance of making the playoffs.
More than that though, this is a Mariners team that had a number of attractive veteran bats and bullpen arms that are set to become free agents after the season: Kendrys Morales, Michael Morse, Raul Ibanez, Oliver Perez all fit that description. So why did the M's stand pat rather than swing a deal? Their GM answered that question after the deadline passed.
