We have been hearing for weeks that the Philadelphia Phillies would be willing to deal Michael Young if they become trade deadline sellers. The problem is GM Ruben Amaro Jr. had given no indication on how he will act over the next nine days.
Over the weekend, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reported the Cincinnati Reds have interest in Young as an outfielder given the uncertain status of Ryan Ludwick, who hasn’t played since Opening Day. While Ludwick is expected back in August, the Reds are uncertain as to what to expect from the 35-year-old.
The Red Sox are another team that has been linked to the 36-year-old Young, who is a free agent after the season. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says Young could be part of an August waiver deal if the Phils fall out of contention at that point.
Young is hitting .315 with five homers and 20 RBI since June 1.
