What Niese's injury means

The New York Mets will be without their Opening Day starter for a while.
Jonathon Niese was put on the disabled list over the weekend with a partial tear in his left rotator cuff, per Jorge Castillo of the Star-Ledger.

Niese is hoping to avoid surgery by resting for a few weeks and doing exercises with a physical therapist to strengthen muscles around the area. He will then have another MRI to evaluate the progress.
