There isn't a great deal of hope that the Minnesota Twins will be able to remain in serious contention for a playoff spot, despite a 14-15 record and modest 4 1/2 game deficit in the American League Central. They are in fourth place in a five-team division and are currently sixth the AL Wild Card standings, which suggests that once July arrives, contenders are likely to be burning up the phones of GM Terry Ryan.

Ryan could consider moving first baseman Justin Morneau and outfielder Josh Willingham, two players I have been tracking since the season started, but his roster may have more to offer.

Ryan Doumit, who splits time between catcher, designated hitter and the outfield, signed a two-year extension with the team last June, but could be a versatile, sought after commodity this summer. Left-hander Glen Perkins, who is signed through 2015 with a very affordable 2016 option, is likely to draw interest. (The Twins may have zero reason to move him, since his contract is team friendly.)
