Scott, Young DH options in Tampa

1/21/2013

The Tampa Bay Rays are in the market for a designated hitter, and the options include some familiar faces.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times says the dwindling market includes Luke Scott, who hit .229 with 14 homers and 55 RBI for the Rays last season. The Rays declined Scott’s $6 million option last fall, paying a $1 million buyout instead.

Another available candidate is Delmon Young, who hit .267 with a .707 OPS for the Tigers last season and is coming off ankle surgery in November. Young, who made $6.75 million last season, played in Tampa Bay in 2006 and 2007.

The Rays, as is their custom, won't overpay for either candidate.
