While the New York Mets were planning to start the 2013 season without left-hander Johan Santana, they weren't expecting to be without him all year. News broke Thursday from ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin that an MRI revealed the former Cy Young winner again has a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. Rubin's tweet used the word "probable." General manager Sandy Alderson said Santana is likely to require a second surgery, which is bad news for Santana's chances to pitch at all in 2013.
