Potential competition for Cano

If the New York Yankees do not get second baseman Robinson Cano signed before he officially becomes a free agent, they could see serious competition from a couple of big-market clubs. Certainly, they prefer it doesn't get that far, and as Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com writes, the club has made a significant offer to Cano, suggesting the club is actually hoping they don't have to win a bidding war next winter.
