Right-hander Kyle Lohse is one of the top 150 starting pitchers in baseball. He's probably one of the top 30 or 40 based on his performances over the past two seasons. He's jobless, at the moment, and for the most part the blame is on the free agent compensation system. Lohse, 34, may be asking for contract terms that also have deterred some clubs. At this stage -- March 1, two weeks into spring training for pitchers and catchers with spring training games well under way -- it's probably safe to assume Lohse's asking price still includes multiple years and near-market salaries.
