Pirates (No. 51) | Blake Taylor, Dana Hills HS (Dana Point, Calif.): It’s all about projection with Taylor, but at just 17 years old with an outstanding pitching body, he could be one of the true steals of the draft. Luckily for him, there are a ton of arms in the Pirates’ system ahead of him, which will allow them to develop him at his own pace. Padres (No. 50) | Dustin Peterson, SS, Gilbert (Arizona) HS: Padres: I actually think that Dustin is a better prospect than his brother (DJ Peterson, picked No. 12 by Seattle), with a little more offensive upside and playing a position with more value, be it shortstop or second base.
Padres (No. 69) | Jordan Paroubeck, OF, JSerra HS (San Mateo, Calif.): San Diego is really getting the hang of this draft thing. Paroubeck is more known for training with Barry Bonds, but he is an outstanding athlete with above-average tools across the board. I see a starting outfielder with the potential for more.
